The pantry/food area volunteers may be assigned to any or all of the following duties:

*packing food bags

*stocking food shelves

*rotating food based on use by dates and first in-first out

*bagging produce

All volunteers assist in maintaining the cleanliness and order of the Center, and assisting in other areas when needed.

DESCRIPTION "Staff" a Veterans Resource Station in the library for a minimum of one 2-hour shift per week to meet with veterans and/or family members. Serve as expert listener and initial problem solver. Help each veteran or veteran family member complete the My CalVet online form at www.calvet.ca.gov, or complete the print version of the "Veterans Reintegration Form." Either of these forms enters the individual into CalVet’s database and helps identify the benefits and services they need and for which they may be eligible. Once in the system, CalVet or a designated representative will make contact with the veteran. Guide the veteran toward those benefits that are likely to enhance their particular situation- and, using the California Veteran’s Resource Book, provide contact information for the County Veterans Service Office in their county - of residence, so they can make an appointment. Also, provide a checklist of the basic documents the veteran should take to their appointment in order to expedite their access to services. If, during the conversation, additional service needs are identified, provide contact information to other library or community services. If a veteran is in a crisis, refer to the list of emergency service numbers provided. Maintain data on number of veterans/family members served, types of questions asked, referrals made, and issues/topic areas needed but not covered in the library’s collection. DESCRIPTION

The Kings County Library in partnership with the Friends of the Library is looking for a book loving, people pleasing, community minded person to volunteer as our Book Sale Coordinator.

If libraries are your favorite place, you’ll be able to hang out at the library all day, with the fulfillment of knowing that you are helping The Friends of the Library coordinate the Annual Book Sales to benefit the Kings County Library Summer Reading Program and Special Library Projects.

The Book Sales are a time honored community event that allows our public to step into new worlds through literature, reach their aspirations through books that teach and inspire, or discover new writers that entertain and enlighten.

You’ll have the opportunity to work with library staff, Friends of the Library, and other volunteers. The Coordinator will be required to work in all aspects of the Book Sale, including cashiering, receiving/sorting book donations, and event set-up, and sales assistance. We are looking for a person with exceptional customer service and communication skills.

All volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation before beginning volunteering at the library

Volunteer orientations occur at Hanford Library in April & August.

Volunteer: Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children

CASA volunteer completes an extensive training program prior to being assigned to a child and continues their education through in-service trainings and special events.   After being sworn in as an Officer of the Court, the advocates choose a case that works with their available time and the circumstances surrounding the individual case.  An advocate’s commitment on one case can range from a few months to a few years.

The duties and responsibilities of an advocate are three-fold:

1)      To provide independent information to the juvenile court.

2)      To monitor the child’s case plan and speak up for what’s in the child’s best interest.
